ClearCorrect Q & A

What is ClearCorrect?

ClearCorrect is an orthodontic treatment system that relies on clear plastic trays instead of brackets and wires to move teeth into their correct positions over time. ClearCorrect can be an ideal treatment option for patients with:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Gaps between teeth

The trays are made of medical-grade plastic, and each tray is custom-made to fit the contours of the patient’s teeth. Patients usually wear from 18 to 30 sets of trays during treatment, and subtle differences in the shape of each tray help keep teeth moving into proper alignment.

What happens during treatment with the ClearCorrect system?

ClearCorrect treatment starts with a series of impressions or molds of the teeth.

Dr. Eng will send the impressions to the ClearCorrect lab where a special computer system will scan the impressions and then create a detailed series of 3D models that show how each tooth needs to move over time to shift into its proper alignment. Those models are used to create the actual trays the patient will wear. A special computer-aided manufacturing technique is used to create the trays, ensuring they fit snugly and comfortably for maximum benefit and ease of wear.

During treatment, each tray is worn for about 22 hours each day for about 2 weeks, then it’s swapped out for the next tray in the series. Patients visit Dr. Eng about every six weeks to make sure their treatment is on track. Most patients can complete their ClearCorrect treatment in 2 years or less.

What advantages does ClearCorrect offer over traditional metal or ceramic braces?

First, as the name implies, ClearCorrect trays are clear, so they’re almost invisible while they’re being worn. Plus, the edges are smooth, so they won’t irritate the insides of the cheeks or the lips. The trays can also be removed, which makes it a lot easier to brush and floss teeth during treatment. And of course, they can also be removed for eating, so patients don’t have to worry about dietary restrictions. Finally, the custom design means treatment usually can be completed in less time.

Is ClearCorrect a good choice for me?

ClearCorrect can be a great choice for most alignment issues, but it’s not always the best choice for everyone. During the initial evaluation, Dr. Eng will be able to determine if ClearCorrect is the ideal option based on the your specific needs and the issues you’re facing.
